The fourth annual National Night Out will take place on Aug.

8 at the Ironwood Shopping Center from 4-8 p.m. and will feature a live band, food trucks, vendors, bounce houses, a free movie at 7:30 p.m. and a raffle that benefits the Douglas County Sheriff's Advisory Council as the Sheriff's Office showcases Search and Rescue, Mounted Patrol and K9 demos.

Dangberg Historic Park will host a Pony Express history event Tuesday at 10 a.m. in partnership with the Nevada Division of the nonprofit National Pony Express Association, where youth and families can watch horseback mail exchanges, listen to a presentation by rider Warren Upson, and take part in ham radio demonstrations, a photo booth, a scavenger hunt, and craft activities (all youth must be accompanied by an adult).

JoAnne Skelly, Associate Professor and Extension Educator Emerita at the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, reviewed Dave Goulson’s book 'A Sting in the Tale, My Adventures with Bumblebees' and explained how modern garden designs can harm bumblebees while urging residents to choose bee-friendly plants like lavender and oregano — a change she believes is vital for sustaining pollinator populations.

The Nevada Department of Public Safety announced that Joseph Rodriguez has been appointed as the new State Fire Marshal and will begin his role on Sept 13 — replacing Mike Dzyak, who will retire on Sept 12 after a 25-year career.

On July 19, Nevada Home Finder Group and Rush Team Guild Mortgage presented Carson Valley Health Foundation with a $10,500 check at Genoa Town Park during the A Night in Genoa Benefit Concert + the funds support the Together for Tomorrow campaign to expand health care access.
