  • Carson City retired deputy Jim Bagwell released his memoir — The Sword and the Shield: A Life of Duty and Honor — to share his law enforcement story and support Honor Flight Nevada with net proceeds from book sales. The book, which recounts his journey from the 1950s to his service in Douglas County, was available on amazon.com starting Veterans Day.  The Record Courier

  • Rich Tidrick, a veteran with 20 years in the Navy Seabees, returned to Western Nevada College to study Construction Project Management. His success and friendly nature inspire other veterans and adult learners to pursue education—proving that it is never too late to learn.  The Nevada Appeal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Tuesday night, residents in northern Nevada saw an unexpected display when the northern lights lit the sky after the strongest solar flare so far in 2025 sent charged particles toward Earth — NOAA issued a geomagnetic storm watch and warned that the effects will be severe today, strong on Thursday, and minor on Friday.  News4

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Carson Tahoe Health and the Nevada Health Authority announced an extension of their agreement with United Medical Resources that guarantees state employees will remain in-network for care through June 30 (2027). The revised contract follows months of negotiations that had aimed to resolve plans to limit coverage next spring.  The Nevada Appeal
