EDUCATION NEWS

  • Carson City School District has a vacancy for a Religious Representative on its Family Life Committee, which is part of the school district's sex education program. Interested applicants must submit a letter of interest and resume to the Educational Services Department by Monday, November 10 at 5:00 p.m.—questions may be directed to Paige Camara at 775-283-2009.  The Nevada Appeal

FINANCE NEWS

  • NV Energy has filed estimates with state regulators showing that customers were overcharged by roughly $65.5 million due to rate misclassifications (single-family rates applied to multi-family properties) from 2002 to 2025. The filing is part of an ongoing investigation that will prompt the commission to review the differences in service and energy fees for possible refunds or credits.  News4

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • CORE Construction invites Nevada licensed subcontractors to apply for qualification on a state public works project to build two new administration buildings and a parking garage in Carson City, with the project budget estimated at $111,000,000 and applications due by 5:00 p.m. PST on December 18th (this is a prevailing wage project). Subcontractors must meet criteria that assess financial ability, safety records, bonding capabilities, and past contract performance.  The Nevada Appeal

  • Carson City Health and Human Services confirmed a man over 50 as the first hantavirus case in Lyon County in 2025—officials say he may have been exposed while cleaning rodent droppings and urge residents to follow safety guidelines.  News4
  • Carson City Health and Human Services reported on Nov. 7 the first hantavirus case in Lyon County in a man over 50, and officials said he likely was exposed while cleaning areas with rodent droppings. They warned residents to use a bleach solution (1 part bleach to 9 parts water) and wear protective gear when cleaning such spaces.  The Nevada Appeal

  • Douglas High School football was knocked out on Friday from the Class 5A North playoffs after a 48-14 loss to unbeaten Spanish Springs, and the loss leaves the team with a 3-8 record as over 30 seniors will graduate in the spring.  The Record Courier
