If you followed the city hall saga, here's what's next. A group called Let Carson Vote filed a petition to amend the Carson City Charter so any installment-purchase agreement of $10 million or more goes to Carson City voters instead of the Board of Supervisors. The group formed around the failed $30 million city hall project, but its filing isn't tied to any particular project.
Carson City Clerk-Recorder Scott Hoen said petitioners need 15% of the number who voted in the last general election, and the count would come from today's election. The city manager's office declined to comment.
- Signature deadline: April 17, 2027
- Checking signatures: a 15% sample
- Likely vote: the June 2028 primary, Hoen said
- Legislature ratification: not required, Hoen said
The signature count would depend on this year's vote
- $10 million
- threshold for sending a purchase deal to voters
- 13,068
- Carson City votes for president in 2024
- 4,660
- is 15% of that, Hoen's example
- 180
- days to gather signatures

“Unfortunately, a lot of the public doesn't pay attention to what's going on in their own cities.”
