ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Community volunteers began planting 300 new Jeffrey pines at Davis Creek Regional Park and in St. James Village to restore land damaged by last year's Davis Fire. The trees, along with soil additives donated by Moana Nursery—expected to help stabilize the landscape—are set to boost recovery efforts.  News4

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Officials remind visitors that the Nevada Day Parade is a non-campaigning event and no campaign signs, political slogans, or campaign apparel are allowed. Elected officials may represent their office while candidates and advocacy groups can share information only at vendor booths—this follows guidelines for public funding.  FOX Reno

HEALTH NEWS

  • Northern Nevada Public Health is offering COVID—19, flu and RSV vaccines to all including children, the underinsured and uninsured. The immunization program supervisor said walk-ins and appointments are available and advised those planning holiday travel to get vaccinated at least two weeks before departure.  News4

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Jim Valentine advised that timing is crucial in real estate transactions—buyers and sellers should plan their offer, escrow, and tax steps carefully while observing disclosure rules for older homes. He stressed that closing deals strategically, such as before Dec. 31, can help manage interest costs and future law changes.  The Nevada Appeal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Sierra Lutheran's girls golf team finished third with a total score of 896 at the two-day Class 2A state tournament held at Toiyabe Golf Course, where Cailyn Schroeder tied for seventh. Carson and Douglas high schools each had one team member qualify in Class 5A — Charlotte Roberts finished 35th in Boulder City while Charlie Garrison ended 39th.  The Nevada Appeal
  • Douglas High girls cross country won the Lowry Invite on Friday with top runners finishing near 20 minutes—while the girls soccer team tied 3-3 on senior night and the tennis teams competed in the Class 4A North regional tournament. The school earned a strong showing across sports with each team marking important results this week.  The Nevada Appeal
  • Douglas High girls cross country dominated the Lowry Invite on Friday by winning with 28 points as Lucy Nord and Krystle Dixon finished fourth and fifth. The girls soccer team tied 3-3 with Damonte Ranch on senior night and the tennis teams ended their season at regionals after a girls doubles pair lost to a Reno duo.  The Record Courier
  • Carson High School tennis ended its season at the Class 4A regionals at Bishop Manogue where Sujwal Yedunuthula won his first match but fell in the quarterfinals and the doubles team of Ashton Wilkins and Barnat Casjuana advanced after a bye but lost in the quarters — Carson girls tennis saw Aubrey McAllister win her opening two matches before falling in the quarterfinals, and the Senator volleyball team beat Galena in four sets as the season wrapped up with a girls soccer tie against the Miners.  The Nevada Appeal
