- ➤ Carson City’s HUGS for Homeless drive aims to raise $15,000 to buy winter coats, gloves, hats and socks for homeless adults with a lead donation of $2,500 from SW Gas Corp and support from local groups. The campaign runs through December to help prevent cold-weather illness — it follows last year’s distribution of 240 coats, 175 gloves, 255 hats and 480 socks. The Nevada Appeal
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Fire crews have begun prescribed burns around Lake Tahoe Basin in El Dorado and Douglas Counties to reduce fuel load and improve forest health as burns will continue through the fall and winter; in Incline Village, crews will start burns once another winter storm arrives north of Big Blue (fire officials advise not to call 911 if you see a burn).
