  • The Save Mart on 4348 S. Carson St. will close permanently on Oct. 17 as a sign outside the store announced — an automated phone message directs customers to the open North Carson location. Save Mart Cos. did not comment on the status of South Carson employees.  The Nevada Appeal

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Carson Chamber Singers will kick off its 41st season with a concert titled Travel with Me at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10 at First United Methodist Church—offering music from the 1500s to today by composers from England, Canada, and the U.S.—with general admission tickets at $18 and discounts for seniors, students, and members.  The Nevada Appeal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Western Nevada College announced an October 31 deadline for the Nevada Promise Scholarship for high school seniors graduating in spring 2026—this last-dollar award covers up to three years of tuition and mandatory fees. Geology students explored Lake Tahoe’s volcanic history on a field trip, Sen. Jacky Rosen visited the Reynolds Center for Technology on September 25 to engage with students, a local theater will show Fiddler on the Roof in November, and IBEW Local 401 won the Golf for Education tournament at Toiyabe Golf Club.  The Nevada Appeal

  • Gov. Joe Lombardo announced he will call a special session in Carson City over the next few months—he intends to finish unfinished legislative business including his sweeping crime bill and a film tax credit measure that stalled in the Senate.  News4

  • A boil water order remains at a Carson City apartment complex after E. coli was found in a private well, and health officials are investigating two illness reports but have not yet linked the water to the sickness. Officials confirmed that bathing remains safe and that the apartment pool is closed for the season—more updates will be provided as the investigation continues.  The Nevada Appeal
