EDUCATION NEWS

  • Douglas High School inducted alumni Norrine Smokey-Smith & Chris Vasey into its Hall of Fame during the Fall Fest homecoming on Sept. 27, inspiring students to work hard and dream big. The celebration featured a Formula One car racing theme with music & activities that marked a memorable beginning to the school year.  The Record Courier

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • NV Energy and Sierra Pacific Power filed a joint application with the Public Utilities Commission for their energy supply plan covering calendar years 2026-27. The Commission scheduled a prehearing conference for October 16 at 10:00 a.m.—interested parties may file comments by October 15.  The Nevada Appeal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Carson Tahoe Health introduced its Vehicles of Change program on September 24 at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center to help children with mental health challenges by offering four themed mobile units—Art in Motion, Eat, Play, Love, Play It Forward, and Sound Ideas. The organization partnered with local Boys and Girls Clubs and community centers in an eight-week pilot with more than 200 children and hopes the program will become a national model.  The Nevada Appeal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Visit Carson Valley will host the Ferris 50 Endurance Run on November 8 with three races starting at 6 a.m., 7 a.m., and 10 a.m.—the 50-mile race offering cash prizes and belt buckles while free parking is provided at the Carson Valley Inn. The event will take place on BLM land with a mix of dirt, gravel and sand—and volunteers needed from Oct. 6 to help support the race.  The Record Courier
  • Rattlesnake Raceway will host the 39th Annual Dirt Track Championship this weekend as races will start Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 6 p.m.—grandstands open at 5 p.m. and tailgating spots are available by reservation—while drivers from several car classes compete for season titles.  The Nevada Appeal
  • Oasis Academy lost its volleyball match to Yerington on Sept 26 by scores of 25-19, 25-19, 25-9, dropping its league record to 1-8 and setting up a trip to North Tahoe on Saturday — its cross country and golf teams also posted notable finishes in recent tournaments.  The Nevada Appeal
