- ➤ PK O’Neill announced his retirement from the District 40 Assembly seat after serving three terms in eight years, saying he will continue his duties until November 2026 as he steps aside to make room for a younger leader—he thanked the community for its support. - ➤ Today, 173 new Nevada laws that are one third of 519 approved measures are taking effect, with changes that include making wrong way driving a criminal offense under Jaya’s Law, limiting rental fees through full disclosure, and allowing alcohol to go sales through ride share deliveries—these laws also regulate balloon releases, cemetery maintenance, ticket sales and designate January 27 as International Holocaust Remembrance Day. - ➤ NV Energy filed its third report on the Natural Disaster Protection Plan for the Action Plan Period 2024-2026 with the Public Utilities Commission on September 5, 2025—detailing project statuses, funding pursuits, and a request for confidential treatment of some information. A prehearing conference will be held on Tuesday, October 28 at 10:30 a.m. and parties must email for an access code by October 23 to join the meeting in Carson City or remotely. The Nevada Appeal
- ➤ On Thursday, the Board of Supervisors will consider a 92-townhome project by DR Horton in northwest Carson City at 8:30 a.m. in the community center on E. William St.—Supervisors will also review grant applications for two trail projects and appointments to the Carson City Airport Authority with four-year terms and local sales tax funding as the match. - ➤ Tahoe Douglas firefighter Conner Bradley fights Stage 4 lymphoma and has finished three rounds of chemotherapy — he was transferred to UCSF for tests and was honored at Hero’s Night Sept. 11 by local supporters. The Record Courier
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Carson High School will host the Hug Hawks Friday night for homecoming football as the Senators, coming off a 45+0 win over North Valleys last week, try to extend their 10-game win streak while Hug aims to break its long losing run. The Nevada Appeal
- ➤ Douglas High School football will travel to Reno Friday night to face Bishop Manogue, the two-time defending state champion, and the team, considered underdogs, aims to shift the Northern Nevada football landscape. Coach Kyle Mays said the Tigers will focus on a strong ground game plus protect their quarterback to spark scoring and secure a potential home playoff game. The Record Courier
- ➤ The Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association reported that 217 ejections have happened so far this fall in high school sports with 170 coming from soccer—leading officials to increase suspension penalties to curb violent acts.
