  • Nevada Day and Wickstrom Ace Hardware in Carson City have partnered to offer a 15% discount on float-building supplies for participants ahead of the Nevada Day Parade on Saturday, Nov. 1—residents can visit the hardware store at 971 Topsy Ln. Ste. 334 during regular business hours.  CarsonNow
  • The 37th Bonanza Kennel Club AKC All-Breed Dog Show is underway at Fuji Park this weekend with nearly 600 dogs competing in obedience, rally trials, puppy events, & scent work. CULTURE NEWS

  • Carson City's third annual Mark Twain Festival will be held Oct. 16-19 and will feature two new murals—one at the Nevada State Museum and one at the Rodeway Inn—to mark the writer's historic ties to the city. The event will honor Twain's legacy with fresh exhibits and new books that recall his early days in the local historic district.  The Nevada Appeal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Carson High School seniors Maria Benshoof and Hannah Budd were named National Merit semifinalists for 2026 and will learn in February if they earn a scholarship — both students plan to pursue careers in medicine.  The Nevada Appeal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Carson City is now accepting Letters of Intent to apply for the 2025—2026 Community Support Services Grant from non-profit organizations and government agencies that serve Carson City residents. Applications must meet key community needs and are due by Oct. 6 at 4:00 p.m., with approved projects running from Dec. 19 until June 30 and funds distributed on a reimbursement basis.  CarsonNow

SPORTS NEWS

  • Carson High School girls varsity tennis team qualified for the 4A Northern Nevada Team Regionals after beating Reed 11-7 on Sept. 25. Head coach Paul Maguire (in his first year) said the win earned the team its final spot and that the regionals will begin on Sept. 30.  CarsonNow
