- ➤ Carson City's third annual Mark Twain Festival will be held Oct. 16-19 and will feature two new murals—one at the Nevada State Museum and one at the Rodeway Inn—to mark the writer's historic ties to the city. - ➤ Carson High School seniors Maria Benshoof and Hannah Budd were named National Merit semifinalists for 2026 and will learn in February if they earn a scholarship — both students plan to pursue careers in medicine. The Nevada Appeal
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Carson City is now accepting Letters of Intent to apply for the 2025—2026 Community Support Services Grant from non-profit organizations and government agencies that serve Carson City residents. Applications must meet key community needs and are due by Oct. 6 at 4:00 p.m., with approved projects running from Dec. 19 until June 30 and funds distributed on a reimbursement basis. CarsonNow

- ➤ Carson High School girls varsity tennis team qualified for the 4A Northern Nevada Team Regionals after beating Reed 11-7 on Sept. 25. Head coach Paul Maguire (in his first year) said the win earned the team its final spot and that the regionals will begin on Sept. 30. CarsonNow
