COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Nevada Day Parade is run entirely by volunteers—Carson City needs more helpers to fill roles such as Parade Marshals, gift shop clerks, clean-up crews, and general Parade Day helpers; volunteers can sign up online to help the celebration run smoothly.  CarsonNow
  • Milo is a one-year-old male mastiff at Nevada Humane Society’s Carson City campus at 549 Airport Rd — his playful and gentle nature makes him a great companion, and he is open for visits Tuesday–Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.  CarsonNow

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • After a thunderstorm on Thursday caused flash flooding that led to road closures and evacuations, local officials and first responders rescued residents and stranded animals and cleaned up muddy debris in the Ruhenstroth area early Friday—restoring order after the heavy rains.  The Record Courier

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Carson High School named its student-nominated Homecoming candidates during an assembly and launched a weeklong western-themed celebration — including dress-up days, a bonfire, line dancing and decoration contests — that will end with a parade on Oct. 3 and a dance on Oct. 4. The school is also collecting items for the Reno Rodeo Foundation Denim Drive.  The Nevada Appeal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Carson City officials confirmed a boil water order at Terrace Garden Apartments on E. Fifth Street after E. coli was found in water from a private well on Sept. 19. The order remains in effect until safe water test results are achieved and the apartment complex pool is kept closed (per state and city guidelines).  The Nevada Appeal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Sierra Lutheran High School football is switching from the 8-man to the 11-man game today as they prepare to face Silver Stage, a change that requires players to adjust to new roles and a wider field. Coach Justin Barlow said the team is excited to fill three new starting spots—tests that will bring new challenges to their play.  The Record Courier
  • Douglas High School's Tigers won their homecoming game by beating the Mustangs 42-19 on Friday night, and star player Zack Jackson scored three touchdowns while the defense kept the opposition to just 19 points. The team opened league play with a strong performance that signals a promising season ahead.  The Record Courier
  • Carson High School volleyball swept Douglas on Thursday with scores of 25—17, 25—16, and 25—19 to boost their record to 15—3 this season. The Senators will face Bishop Manogue on October 2nd for Senior Night.  The Nevada Appeal
  • Douglas High School football beat Damonte Ranch Mustangs 42-19 on homecoming night with strong plays led by Zack Jackson who rushed for 140 yards and three touchdowns (15 carries) to secure a 1-0 league record. They will face Bishop Manogue next Friday in Reno as the season continues.  The Nevada Appeal
  • Carson High boys soccer beat Douglas 8-0 on Wednesday—seven players scored with Francisco Velazquez netting early goals—while girls soccer lost 5-1 to Damonte Ranch on Tuesday. Dayton High girls soccer tied Pershing County 1-1 and Dayton High volleyball swept Smith Valley 3-0 on Tuesday.  The Record Courier
