- ➤ Heritage BBQ will celebrate Carson Valley's agriculture on Oct.4 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds with exhibits, a historical review by Ansie Scossa, and a prime rib lunch by Executive Chef Remon Zamalis + a keynote address by Janice Rogers Brown and presentations by local officials. - ➤ A rapid response by the first engine quickly controlled a brush fire about 100 feet on each side off Red Rock Road today—preventing spread to nearby structures—and firefighters now mop up the area. News4

- ➤ Award-winning actress Sonia Manzano will appear in Carson City on Sept. 30 as part of National Hispanic Heritage Month to discuss language, culture and family. The event starts with a book signing from 5 to 6 p.m. and continues with a keynote presentation and Q&A session at the Bob Boldrick Theater from 6 to 7:30 p.m.—the first 50 attendees will receive a signed copy of one of her books. - ➤ Carson High senior Lillian Turner overcame a life-threatening heart condition and excelled in varsity sports and academics—she earned a 5.1 GPA while taking challenging AP and dual credit classes to earn an associate’s degree before graduation. The Nevada Appeal

- ➤ Carson City Health and Human Services will host a job fair on Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center (851 E. William St.) where local employers will meet with job seekers of all experience levels. The Nevada Appeal
- ➤ Former National Guard members and families will gather on Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Army Aviation Support Facility in Stead to honor five aviators from Mustang22 whose helicopter was struck by a rocket-propelled grenade in Afghanistan twenty years ago—remembering John Flynn, Sgt. Patrick Stewart, Warrant Officer Adrian Stump, Sgt. Tane Baum, and Sgt. Kenneth Ross. The Nevada Appeal
- ➤ NV Energy and Sierra Pacific Power filed a joint application with the Public Utilities Commission on September 5th to update their 2025 Distributed Resources Plan and seek confidential treatment; the Commission scheduled a prehearing conference for October 15th at 10:00 a.m. in Carson City with options to attend in person or via videoconference—interested persons must file petitions to intervene by October 8th—while public viewing remains available at Commission offices. - ➤ Carson High teams posted strong results this weekend—cross country runners set 22 personal records at Woodbridge and the volleyball team defeated Galena in a match lasting four sets. The girls and boys tennis squads and the girls soccer team also won their contests while nearby schools had mixed results in other prep sports events. The Nevada Appeal
- ➤ The Sierra Lutheran High School football team stayed unbeaten at 5-0—defeating Loyalton 42-14 on Saturday at Carson High School. Gianni Gabriel rushed for 134 yards and three touchdowns, and the Falcons will host Silver Stage at 7 p.m. on Saturday. The Nevada Appeal
- ➤ The Douglas High girls tennis team won a makeup match against Hug High 12–6 on Sept. 15 and beat Galena 10–8 on Thursday with Camryn Townsend winning her set 7–5—on Monday they will resume a rained-out match against Damonte Ranch and play McQueen on Tuesday before ending the season against North Valleys at 2 p.m. Meanwhile the volleyball team split a tournament in Sacramento with a win over San Marin and a loss to Liberty Ranch while the boys tennis team lost 15–3 to Galena—Douglas will host McQueen on Tuesday then travel to North Valleys on Thursday.
