With 43 days left until the Nevada Day Parade on November 1, organizers say participants should start planning their decorations for the Best Parade Decoration Contest.

The parade will have a Wild Wild West theme and feature community groups, and the Nevada Gift Shop in Carson City is offering $28 decoration kits—making it easier for everyone to add extra flair.

Guy Rocha, a well-known historian and former state archivist who debunked Western tall tales, died Thursday in Reno at 73.

He led the state archives for nearly 30 years—his work saved key records and helped form Nevada Day celebrations—and is survived by his daughter, son and half-brother.

Douglas High School is hosting a homecoming event with an F1 car racing theme that breaks tradition by nominating kings and queens individually—Fall Fest at Minden Park on Wednesday will include sports competitions, F1-themed games, and a parade, and the homecoming game against Damonte will be on Friday.

Western Nevada College’s nursing program was voted one of Nevada’s top two by RegisteredNursing.org for 2026—ranking only behind Great Basin College with NCLEX pass rates of 100% and 98.18%.

The college also offers flexible learning options, letting students start open-entry and late-start courses even after the semester has begun.
