  • Visit Carson Valley is asking community members and outdoor enthusiasts to volunteer for the Ferris 50 Endurance Run on November 8—volunteers will help at aid stations, checkpoints and at the start and finish lines. The event will showcase our region’s landscapes and is expected to boost local businesses as athletes come from across the west.  The Record Courier

CULTURE NEWS

  • With 43 days until the Nevada Day Parade on Nov.1, organizers urge participants to start planning decorations as the Nevada Gift Shop in Carson City sells $28 kits — making it simple to add flair to floats and vehicles. The parade will feature a Wild Wild West theme and contests like Best School Entry to celebrate Nevada’s heritage.  The Record Courier
  • Guy Louis Rocha—one of Nevada's most respected historians—died at Renown Regional Medical Center. He spent his life saving state records and teaching people about Nevada's past.  The Nevada Appeal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Carson deputies from the Sheriff’s Office made a safety video at Carson High School this week to show students how to stay safe online and follow traffic laws—teaching them to report suspicious behavior and avoid sharing unverified posts. The video also stars K9 Kamper and reminds students to speak with a trusted adult when needed.  The Nevada Appeal
  • A public sale by competitive bidding will occur on October 2nd at 10:00 a.m.—bidding will take place on storagetreasures.com for a liened storage property at 3579 Highway 50 East Suite B in Carson City that includes items from Allen Parkins, Kimberly Eisele, Michael Savolainen, Sydney Darney, Christopher Landry, and Doug Stone. Purchases must be paid at the time of sale—all items are offered as is per facility policy.  The Nevada Appeal

  • Carson City Health Department urges men to get early screening for prostate cancer as risk increases after fifty—tests like the PSA blood test and digital rectal exam are recommended—to catch the disease early.  The Nevada Appeal

  • Carson High's defense held Reed to 9 points in the first half but then let Reed build a lead that led to a 38-3 loss on Friday night—showing a strong start but a tough finish. The team will travel to North Valleys next Friday—seeking to improve their play in their first Class 4A North league game.  The Nevada Appeal
