BUSINESS NEWS

  • Crumbl — Carson City opened its doors yesterday and was open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. For its grand opening, the Gauthier family offered free chocolate chip cookies — supplies lasted.  CarsonNow

CULTURE NEWS

  • Friends of Sutro Tunnel announced at their third annual “Meat and Drink” event that they surpassed $1M in donations since Jan. 1—more than 400 guests gathered at the Dayton tunnel to support cleaning and restoring the historic site as part of a planned $5M project. Board members and local partners will help continue the work to preserve the 28-acre area for future generations.  The Nevada Appeal
  • Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space invites residents to name the Community Art Building at 801 N. Roop St.—the building is used for art classes, art camps, and workshops. Name suggestions must be submitted via survey by 5:00 p.m. October 31.  CarsonNow

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Carson City officials said the new 18,000-square-foot Fire Station 55 and Emergency Operations Center built for $18 million at 3645 Butti Way will become operational early next week pending a final certificate of occupancy; a public open house is set (1 to 3 p.m.) on Sept. 18.  The Nevada Appeal
  • Some Nevada foster parents may be underpaid or overpaid for care due to a cyberattack on state systems last month—officials said in an email sent last week—making it essential for families to keep detailed records. A Carson City resident reported missing his monthly stipend and expressed disappointment with the payment system.  News4

SPORTS NEWS

  • Local high school graduates are now playing in college sports this fall; Kyle Koontz of Houston Christian has three catches for his 1–1 team and will face Nebraska today in Lincoln—others from Douglas and Carson High have started strong on football, volleyball, soccer, and golf teams.  The Record Courier
  • Douglas High girls volleyball swept South Tahoe Tuesday with set scores of 25-16, 25-16, and 25-10 as Alexa Atkinson and Hayley Rocha led the team. In separate contests, Carson High girls soccer beat Bishop Manogue 3-1 while boys soccer lost matches to Wooster and Sparks.  The Nevada Appeal
  • Douglas High School football senior Zack Jackson rushed for 300 yards and three touchdowns in a 45-0 shutout win over North Valleys Friday night—he also blocked a punt and returned an interception for a touchdown. His performance helped secure an important win for the team.  The Nevada Appeal
