- ➤ Carson City School District reported that enrollment dropped by 130 students to 6,896 as of Sept. 8 — Empire Elementary lost 44 students and all grade levels had changes. - ➤ NV Energy said power was restored around Carson City at 8:30 p.m. after lightning strikes caused outages for 2,300 customers and a transformer failure near the Nevada State Railroad Museum on Wednesday evening + the Carson City Fire Department checked the area following the reported strike. - ➤ Carson City officials said that the burning of the abandoned Children’s Home cottages on 5th Street is part of a live-fire training exercise — they assured residents that all known asbestos was removed before the burn began. - ➤ The Carson City Regional Transportation Commission voted to advance key projects in the North Carson corridor by approving a $338,860 contract with CA Group Inc for a Complete Streets Feasibility Study expected by June 30th which could lead to a $20.7 million upgrade between William Street and Medical Parkway — they also moved forward a potential freeway interchange plan on South Carson Street under NDOT review and approved contracts for pavement preservation and safety improvement projects.
