EDUCATION NEWS

  • Carson City School District said its students’ civics test pass rate dropped from 98.6% to 97.4% in 2024-25 as testing increased to 529 participants—16 of whom received waivers. District officials noted that the exam meets state law requirements and is used to track students’ learning of government civics.  The Nevada Appeal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Carson City is inviting public comments on its CAPER as part of the 2024-2025 CDBG program, with the document available for review online from September 10 while comments must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Thursday, September 25. A public hearing will be held on October 2 at 8:30 a.m. at the Carson City Community Center—Robert “Bob” Crowell Board Room.  The Nevada Appeal
  • CAMPO has scheduled a public meeting on the Regional Transportation Plan on September 24 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. — the meeting at the Bonanza Room at 851 E. William St. will let Carson City, Lyon County, and Douglas County residents offer input that may shape key transportation projects and funding over the next 25 years.  News4

HEALTH NEWS

  • Carson City Health and Human Services is celebrating National Recovery Month, urging local residents to access integrated treatment for substance use and mental health challenges—community leaders and healthcare workers emphasize the value of support services to boost recovery. The campaign highlights that treatment enhances recovery success and offers resources at the CCHHS office on E. Long St.  The Nevada Appeal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Carson High sports had strong results this week as the boys soccer team won 4-0 against Bishop Manogue on Saturday with early goals from Dazahev Gutierrez and a final score from William Cheuquian, while the girls and boys tennis teams edged North Valleys 10-8 and swept 15-3 last Thursday. The cross country teams also finished fourth at Nevada Union and upcoming matches will test the season’s momentum.  The Nevada Appeal
  • At Rattlesnake Raceway, drivers competed on Aug. 8 and 9 and will race the final regular-season events Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 6 p.m. — the 38th Annual Dirt Track Championship is set for Oct. 3-4.  The Nevada Appeal
  • Douglas High School will play in Minden Friday night at 7 p.m. as the Tigers try to end a six-game losing streak — coach Kyle Mays said the game will test the team’s character while they face North Valleys, who currently hold a 0-4 record.  The Nevada Appeal
  • Carson High School athletes have started strong this fall—senior Johnathan Alvarado ran for 336 yards and scored a game-winning touchdown in football, while juniors Emma Sanders and Julie Salanoa led in volleyball and sophomore William Cheuquian scored key goals in soccer.  The Nevada Appeal
