  • ➤ Fallon will hold its 9/11 remembrance ceremony Thursday at 10 a.m.—with Capt. Andrew Mariner speaking and a piece of the World Trade Center steel beam on display to honor first responders and victims. Carson City will gather at Mills Park at 6 p.m.—where local leaders such as Mayor Lori Bagwell, Sheriff Kenny Furlong, and acting Fire Chief Kevin Nyberg will speak during the Patriots Day event.  The Nevada Appeal

  • ➤ Crumbl will open a new store at 963 Topsy Lane, suite 308, on Friday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. for its grand opening — the Gauthier family-owned shop will offer free chocolate chip cookies while supplies last and serve cookies, mini pies, and cakes Monday through Saturday.  The Nevada Appeal
  • ➤ Local CPA Kelly Bullis wrote an article urging local business owners to improve customer service — by greeting customers with a smile, responding promptly, and listening carefully — and challenged them to consider when customers last felt truly valued.   • ➤ At a meeting on September 8, the Carson City Cultural Commission talked about the future of the V&T Engine House monument — Commissioner Flakus showed sketches but no clear plan was made due to cost and safety concerns. The commission also voted to recommend a 10-foot metal sculpture for Seely Loop in Mills Park that must be approved by a structural engineer.  The Nevada Appeal

  • ➤ Carson City School District announced vacancies on its Family Life Committee for one counselor, two parent, and one medical position — applications are due by 5:00 p.m. on September 26, and interested candidates should submit a letter of interest and resume to the Educational Services Department at 1402 W.   • ➤ The new Carson City Fire Station 55 and Emergency Operations Center at 3645 Butti Way will have a ribbon cutting on Sept. 18 at 1 p.m. during a public open house—this 18,000—square—foot facility will serve as a fire station, backup dispatch station and emergency operations center designed to improve response times.  The Nevada Appeal

SPORTS NEWS

  • ➤ On Saturday, the Nevada Wolf Pack beat Sacramento State 20 to 17 with a defensive touchdown that saved the win—though the team played sloppily and almost let the victory slip away; Coach Jeff Choate said they will work on finishing drives and defense before their next game against Middle Tennessee—ensuring the win, while exciting, did not feel complete.  The Nevada Appeal
