The Whyld Foundation will host its fundraising gala on Friday, Oct.
9 from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Nevada Governor’s Mansion — a historic Carson City landmark — to support local children and families.
Kiwanis Club of Sierra Nevada presented a $1,000 check to Food for Thought today — part of its 20-year anniversary fundraiser aiming for a $20,000 goal and collecting 2,000 pounds of food.
The donation supports local food assistance in Carson City.

Local accountant Kelly Bullis explains that the One Big Beautiful Bill Act increased the tax credit on employer-sponsored childcare to a maximum of $500,000 (or $600,000 for small firms) so companies now pay half the usual cost.
The credit covers childcare provided directly or through licensed facilities.

Proscenium Players Inc. presents ‘The Guys,’ a two-person drama exploring 9/11 trauma featuring a NYC fire chief and journalist, performed at The Maizie Black Box Theatre inside the Brewery Arts Center on Sept.
11 (7 p.m.), Sept. 12 (7 p.m.), and Sept. 13 (2 p.m.).

Students at Oasis Academy challenged themselves with engineering projects, building a house from eight index cards and tape plus designing tall paper towers with five sheets and tape.
The hands-on activities taught creative problem-solving skills in the classroom.
Carson Silver (a satellite campus on 202 E.
Corbett St.) doubled its enrollment from 52 students last year to 102 now. The school offers smaller class sizes and a traditional pencil and paper approach to help students feel at home.
Melissa Bonilla of Carson High School, honored as the latest Rotary Club Senior Spotlight, stands out as HOSA president and FBLA secretary while maintaining a 4.95 GPA and ranking in the top 10 of her class.
She will pursue biochemistry in college and a neurology career after graduation.

State officials reviewed data center tax incentives with regional economic groups but did not engage local counties, which worry about lost revenue and input on the program.
Gov. Lombardo remains supportive, and further discussions & policy reviews are expected.

The Meadows Homeowners Association will auction 1704 Duke Rd. on Thursday, Oct.
8 at 2:00 p.m. at the Carson City County Courthouse front entrance; the sale is held to satisfy a lien and affected homeowners should call H&H Legal (775-525-0155) for assistance.

Douglas High School girls soccer is under new leadership as first-year head coach Jocelyn Messick builds a young team that went 2-10-2 last fall and holds a 1-4 record so far this season.
The coach plans to focus on first touches in upcoming games to develop the program.
On Saturday night, the Nevada Wolf Pack football team won a season opener against Western Kentucky by 49—14—sparking hope for a strong season ahead.
The team ran fast scoring drives and strengthened its defense as fans enjoy the promising start.
