COMMUNITY NEWS

  • St. Paul’s Lutheran Church on the southeast corner of William Street and North Saliman Road will celebrate its 60th birthday on September 14 with a community brunch at 11 a.m. after the main service. The church began in July 1965 and has supported local outreach efforts — it looks forward to continuing its role as a community hub.  The Nevada Appeal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Carson City will host a ribbon cutting and open house for the new Fire Station 55 and Emergency Operations Center at 3645 Butti Way at 1 p.m. on Sept. 18. Visitors will tour the 18,000-square-foot facility designed to improve emergency response times with advanced technology.  News4
  • County road work will affect Jacks Valley Road and Toler Lane in Carson Valley as chip sealing is scheduled on Jacks Valley Road from Sept. 15–18 after a delay due to cool, windy weather. Toler Lane will be closed at Muller Lane Parkway until the end of the workday on Sept. 22—drivers should use East Valley Road, Pinenut Road, or Orchard Road to reach Stodick Park.  The Record Courier
  • The Nevada Public Works Division and the Carson City Fire Department will begin demolishing the Northern Nevada Children’s Home cottages on Sunday for live-fire training exercises—allowing first responders to practice real-life emergency scenarios. The Nevada Division of Environmental Protection will monitor air quality while precautions have been taken to protect public health.  The Nevada Appeal
  • Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is hosting a free scam prevention seminar for seniors at the Kahle Community Center, 236 Kingsbury Grade, Stateline from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 18—attendees will learn to spot common warning signs and use local resources for protection.  The Record Courier

  • Sierra Lutheran High School football beat Pyramid Lake 64-18 on Thursday evening to start the season 3-0—one win shy of making program history. The Falcons will play at Coleville on Saturday, September 13 to try for their fourth win.  The Nevada Appeal
