CRIME NEWS

  • Kenneth Ching was fired from his position as deputy district attorney after he was arrested on August 30 for open and gross lewdness and the Carson City District Attorney’s Office is prosecuting the active case.  News4

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Carson City Cultural Commission will meet Monday at 5:30 p.m. at the community center board room at 851 E. William St. to discuss a donation proposal for a 10-foot sculpture called Aster by local artist Seth Johnson—funded by the Chamber of Commerce Leadership Institute Class of 2024 and valued at $6,300.  The Nevada Appeal

  • Gov. Joe Lombardo said that the state's recovery from a cyberattack discovered Aug. 24 is moving ahead of schedule as critical services like DMV registrations and in-person driver's license issuance resume today—while an ongoing investigation confirms that financial systems remain secure and social services operate normally.  The Nevada Appeal
  • Gov. Joe Lombardo said that the state is recovering ahead of schedule from a cyberattack discovered Aug. 24 as it works to restore the systems Nevadans use every day. Essential services like DMV registrations, driver’s license issuance and health programs remain available—officials confirmed that no state financial data appears compromised and that an investigation continues.  The Record Courier
  • The Nevada Army National Guard has been selected as the U.S. Army’s next mobile infantry battalion, Brig. Gen. Randy Lau said this week. The unit will gain a battalion with a combat logistics company—adding about 300 soldiers—and it will replace its tanks with infantry squad vehicles for improved mobility.  The Nevada Appeal
  • Carson City supervisors approved changes to the courthouse remodel that keep the Clerk-Recorder’s Office in the building to save about $1.5 million and allow a new justice of the peace to use the court; a preconstruction contract is set for this fall with work planned to finish by the end of 2029. They also accepted 6.92 acres of public right of way for improved road access— and noted new state laws taking effect Oct. 1 that will change emergency planning and court fee rules.  The Nevada Appeal

  • NNPH paused using the current COVID-19 vaccine — they await federal guidance on an updated formula to fight new variants. The ACIP will meet on September 18 and NNPH expects to share more vaccine details by late September or early October.  News4
