COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Ron Santi, known as Carson Valley’s Mr. Lion, died on Aug. 20 at age 77 and was honored as the 2023 Carson Valley Days Citizen of the Year—he served the community for decades through many local organizations. A fall celebration will be held to remember his legacy and lasting contributions.  The Record Courier
  • Today, Carson City child Soren Tucker—who has kidney cancer—spent the morning with Sheriff Darin Ballam's team, riding in a SWAT truck, getting his fingerprints taken, and meeting a K-9 unit. His family said the special day gave him a fun, normal break from his treatment.  News4
  • Kiwanis of Sierra Nevada will host its 4th Annual Yard Sale at 708 W. Musser St from Sept 5th to 6th, between 8:00 a.m.—3:00 p.m. The sale will offer furniture, records, books, bikes and other quality items.  The Record Courier

CRIME NEWS

  • During Labor Day weekend, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office stopped about 900 vehicles at the Lake2o event and arrested two for DUI, two for reckless driving, and issued 178 traffic tickets while coordinating with event organizers for traffic and parking safety—Sheriff Dan Coverley said.  The Record Courier

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Carson City officials held a meeting Wednesday to update building and fire codes that will require new accessibility standards and energy efficiency rules for new projects—and fire rules for lithium-ion battery storage. The new codes will be required for designs starting in July, ahead of state and federal mandates.  News4

SPORTS NEWS

  • Douglas High School football will travel to Sutter Friday night for its first road game as the Tigers try to avoid an 0—3 start and hope to have quarterback Keston Sadabseng back after his concussion. Coach Kyle Mays said the team must match Sutter’s strong running game—Sutter is known for its run-first plays.  The Record Courier
  • Douglas High School football is set to play its first road game against unbeaten Sutter High School in California on Friday night; the Tigers will try to avoid an 0-3 start with quarterback Keston Sadabseng returning from a concussion and running back Zack Jackson leading the offense—Sutter's strong ground attack may challenge them.  The Nevada Appeal
  • Carson High School football will travel to Sparks on Friday night to play Spanish Springs in a local non-league contest — the team seeks to build on its first win from last Friday.  The Nevada Appeal
