  • Carson City School District hosted an Ice Cream Social and Playtime on August 28 at the Carson City Children’s Museum for enrolled Pre-K and Early Childhood families. More than 60 families attended—students enjoyed ice cream and museum play while parents attended a brief meeting—learning about upcoming events and resources.  CarsonNow

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Casino Fandango in Carson City will debut Boomer’s Sportsbook on Sept 1, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled for Sept 4 at 3 p.m.—Nevada Lt. Gov. Stavros Anthony and Mayor Lori Bagwell are expected to attend. The sportsbook, licensed by the Nevada Gaming Commission in July, will offer both in-person betting and a mobile app for live bets.  The Nevada Appeal

CRIME NEWS

  • On Thursday at 10 p.m., a 36-year-old Carson City man was arrested near Catalina Apartments after deputies spotted him riding a motorcycle with expired registration and he crashed over a speed bump while trying to run—he now faces three warrants for domestic battery, petit larceny, and suspended sentence violation with a $5,000 bail set at $1,000 cash only.  CarsonNow

CULTURE NEWS

  • Carson Valley will celebrate its old West heritage next week with events at Dangberg Historic Park+COD Casino+the Fairgrounds. Dangberg Historic Park will host free events on Sept. 5 and 6 featuring a Chautauqua and ghost town talk, while COD Casino will show a screening and reenactment on Sept. 4 and the Fairgrounds will hold the Douglas County Rodeo.  The Record Courier

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Carson City School District Board met Tuesday to review a $15.2 million SPED budget that covers salaries and services using state, general, and past-year funds—while approving a new K-5 literacy curriculum under a seven-year $1.19 million contract and updating electronic device rules, civics test procedures, and plans for the C-Hill flag restoration along with setting a topic for the Great American Essay Contest.  CarsonNow
  • More than 200 Douglas County High alumni and family members attended the 1950-1970 reunion at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center on Aug. 23, where Rex Cleary—the oldest graduate—was honored amid a busy schedule that left little time for museum tours. Douglas High will host Homecoming Week Sept. 22-26 with a parade and Fall Fest on Sept. 24 while the Class of 1990 gathers Oct. 10-12 for a football game and dinner.  The Record Courier

  • On August 27, the Planning Commission approved a 92-unit townhome project at Silver Oak, recommended abandoning a public access easement to realign North Lompa Lane, and delayed a fence permit over safety concerns—each decision comes with conditions to address traffic and visibility near residential areas.  CarsonNow
  • Carson City Board of Supervisors is accepting applications from volunteers to serve on the 7-member Airport Authority board with three open roles—a fixed base operator, a manufacturer from a 3-mile radius, and a citizen at large—each serving a four-year term ending in October 2029. Applications are public and must be submitted by September 12, 2025 with interviews planned for October 2 at the Sierra Room in the Community Center.  CarsonNow
