  • The inaugural Swing Into Action Golf Tournament for Eagle Valley Children’s Home will be held on October 4 at Silver Oak Golf Club in Carson City’s foothills—144 players, sponsors and local businesses will join a day of golf, prizes and community connection. All proceeds will support the home’s programs that offer residential care and respite services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  CarsonNow
  • Carson City community members have rallied in the 'Haylee’s Fight, Our Fight' campaign to raise funds for dispatcher Haylee Busby (20-year-old) who was diagnosed with Fibrolamellar carcinoma (a rare liver cancer) and is receiving treatment at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix; donations are still accepted to help cover her travel, lodging and wellness costs.  CarsonNow

  • The Governor’s Office held a press conference yesterday about a cyberattack that began over the weekend and remains active—officials said hackers took personal information but did not confirm what was taken.  CarsonNow

  • Last week, Carson City Kiwanis held its 12th annual Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day, drawing a virtual sellout—winners were announced for the Golf Tournament and Bench Press competition, with Cliff Sorenson taking the men’s golf division and Thomas Runyon bench pressing 370lbs in the men's contest.  CarsonNow

SPORTS NEWS

  • Carson High School Girls Varsity Volleyball team won its third straight championship at the Yerington Invitational on Aug. 27, finishing an undefeated 8-0 record over 32 teams and defeating Spanish Springs High School in the final. Seniors Abby Franco and Cali Stagliano and junior Julie Salanoa have played in all three wins and team captain Franco now leads the team, aiming for a strong playoff run.  CarsonNow
  • Dayton High School health teacher Amy Morrison — a professional Enduro racer who won nationals in Idaho this spring — will travel to Valais, Switzerland to compete in the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships from Saturday to Sept. 14.  The Nevada Appeal
  • Churchill County High School and Oasis Academy released their sports calendars for Aug. 28 to Sept. 4 with contests in tennis, soccer, football, volleyball and golf. The matches will take place at local venues—Edward Arciniega Athletic Complex, Elmo Dericco Gymnasium, the city-county gym and Fallon Golf Course.  The Nevada Appeal
