  • JoAnne Skelly, a University of Nevada Cooperative Extension educator, advised Carson City residents to reduce irrigation around mid-September as warmer fall weather helps lawns and trees adjust—she added that a late-summer nitrogen application benefits roots when the three-day average temperature falls below 50°F.  The Nevada Appeal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Carson City Board of Supervisors adopted Ordinance No. 2025-6 on August 21 to update zoning rules by establishing provisions for temporary use permits and repealing older language. Mayor Lori Bagwell and Supervisors Stacey Giomi, Curtis Horton and Lisa Schuette voted in favor while Supervisor Maurice White was absent — the ordinance was published today.  The Nevada Appeal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Carson High’s senior girls cross country team won the Douglas Class Races at Lampe Park Friday when Vea Miner edged Hannah Budd with both recording a time of 15:57—other teams also posted strong weekend results as the volleyball team went 8—0 in a tournament and the girls soccer team blanked Hug 6—0, while boys soccer and tennis played competitive matches ahead of upcoming contests.   • Douglas High School JV volleyball ended its season opener at the South Lake Tahoe Fall Classic with a 6-0 win—starting strong for the team. At Genoa Lakes, Peggy Lyon won the 2025 Ladies’ Golf Club Championship with a gross score of 174—Sherrie Millichap finished second.  The Record Courier
  • Douglas High girls soccer had no wins with one tie of one to one and one loss with a three to one defeat by Reno and will host Hug at 3:30 p.m. Thursday. Douglas High boys soccer lost to Reed and North Valleys and will play Hug at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday plus the girls tennis team beat Carson ten to nine, the Senator boys tennis team lost thirteen to five to Carson, and the volleyball team will host Spanish Springs at 6 p.m. Thursday.  The Record Courier
