ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Carson City Fire Department responded at 9:19 p.m. Saturday to a structure fire at 2051 Joshua Drive — firefighters removed a trapped man who later died at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center.  The Nevada Appeal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Carson City schools welcomed 6,910 students Monday as the 2025-26 school year began at Seeliger Elementary. The school will use a new reading program—shown to boost scores—while keeping its math materials and nearly filling all staff positions.  The Nevada Appeal

FINANCE NEWS

  • A new tax law lets people deduct up to $10,000 in auto loan interest each year from 2025 to 2028 if they buy a new car that is assembled in the U.S. and weighs less than 14,000 pounds—income limits also apply.  The Nevada Appeal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Rabe Meadow parking area and Lam Watah Historic Trail are closed today through Aug. 26 for underground utility work on the Kahle Complete Street Project to relocate electrical and communications lines. Traffic controls are in place and parking is offered in the Douglas County garage on Highway 50—trail access remains open—while contractors work to keep visitor routes to Lake Tahoe accessible—ensuring safe, continued access during the project—.  The Record Courier

SPORTS NEWS

  • Nevada’s football program announced that it will travel to Nebraska on Sept. 1 for the 2029 opener, with additional games against UTEP on Sept. 8 and Kansas on Sept. 15 — they lost 52-10 to Nebraska in their only previous meeting in 2007. The Mountain West Conference will start public player availability reporting in 2025 to update questionable player statuses before each game.  The Record Courier
