COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Carson City CERT is accepting applications for a free basic training academy in September to train emergency response volunteers. The 26 hours of classroom training will run in six sessions from September 18th to 20th + from September 25th to 27th, and completed applications are due by Sept. 3 with limited seats available.  The Nevada Appeal
  • Local bowlers Lance Peterson and Charlie Washburn will host the third annual Nacho’s Fuzzballs tournament at Homegrown Bowl on Sept. 27—an event to honor Peterson’s late Maine Coon, Nacho, that will raise funds for the SPCA of Northern Nevada to help pet owners with emergency vet bills.  The Nevada Appeal

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Carson Follies will take place at the Carson City Senior Center on August 15 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a theme of Follies for All Seasons featuring singers, cloggers, woodland fairies, and a synchronized swim team — as part of a fundraiser for Meals on Wheels aiming to surpass last year's $5,000 raised during two days of shows.  CarsonNow

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Carson City officials and residents met Tuesday at the city library to review the new master plan land use map that will guide the city’s growth over the next decade. Community Development Director Hope Sullivan explained that the plan divides land into space for green areas, housing, business, industrial and medical uses—further input will be welcomed at a follow-up session Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon.  FOX Reno
  • Travis K. Lee resigned his seat on the East Fork Swimming Pool District Board that runs the Carson Valley Swim Center, leaving a vacancy for a new trustee. His last day will be Aug. 21—applications for his replacement must be submitted by Sept. 8 for the November 2026 ballot.  The Record Courier

  • Douglas High School football will open its season at home Friday at 7 p.m. as the Tigers face the Fernley Vaqueros in Minden. Coach Kyle Mays said his team—despite a limited running back Zack Jackson—will rely on a power run game and expects a close, hard-fought contest.  The Nevada Appeal
