ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A lake water quality precaution is in effect near Camp Richardson after samples from Lake Tahoe’s South Shore showed elevated E. coli levels, and the resort began repairs on a leaking sewer line using immediate measures + officials are working with partner agencies to monitor safety while advising the public to avoid swimming between Jameson Beach and the Valhalla Boathouse.  CarsonNow

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Carson City road report for August 4—10 details several planned closures and lane restrictions due to road and utility work. The report notes that 2nd and Minnesota Streets will close on Saturday evenings for a concert series and that access to Mills Park and other roads will be limited during weekday peak hours.  CarsonNow
  • The Carson City Board of Supervisors will meet Thursday at 8:30 a.m. to consider ending the Redevelopment Authority Citizens Committee (set up in 1993) and review requests for the Lompa East Apartments project east of I-580, including zoning changes and an abandonment request by CC Nevada LLC. They will also examine proposals for a Community Center roof replacement funded by a CDBG grant, a 50-year lease at Eagle Valley Airport, and a water and sewer replacement project to improve local infrastructure.  The Nevada Appeal
  • Director George Togliatti of the Nevada Department of Public Safety announced Joseph Rodriguez will be the new State Fire Marshal starting Sept. 13—succeeding Mike Dzyak who will retire on Sept. 12 after a 25-year career. Rodriguez brings extensive experience in firefighting, military service and law enforcement and will work closely with his predecessor during the transition.  CarsonNow
  • The Carson City DMV office is renovating with updates such as new flooring, countertops, wall coverings and an expanded test room while staying open as most work is scheduled after hours and on weekends. Customers needing written tests are urged to use online services — only pre-scheduled appointments will receive a paper exam in a designated area — as in-person tests are temporarily unavailable.  News4

  • Shelby Benzing, a UNR student with cerebral palsy, said she and nearly 269,000 other Nevadans with disabilities worry about federal Medicaid cuts that could increase waitlists for essential services. State officials and advocates warn that these funding reductions may force people into group homes+ limit their community choices.  CarsonNow

  • Nevada homeowners are urged by local expert Jim Valentine to file a Declaration of Homestead to protect up to $605,000 of home equity from creditor claims—this process requires signing before a notary and recording with the county recorder. The protection does not cover debts such as taxes, mortgages, or other voluntarily incurred liens.  The Nevada Appeal
  • Local residents interested in buying or selling a home are invited to join the Carson City Rotary meeting today at noon in the Brewery Arts Center’s Grand Ballroom on West King Street—RE/MAX Gold broker Garrett Lepire will share key insights on the market trends.
