  • The fifth annual Douglas County Rodeo will be held from Sept. 5 to Sept. 7 at the Fairgrounds with a golf tournament at Carson Valley Golf Course, rodeo events, live music and vendor booths, while Cow Pasture Boxing will take place on Sept. 4 at the Carson Valley Inn with a mix of boxing, Muay Thai and kickboxing + tickets can be purchased online + at JT Basque Bar & Dining Room.  The Record Courier

CULTURE NEWS

  • Youth Theatre Carson City is presenting My Son Pinocchio, Jr. at the Carson City Community Center's Bob Boldrick Theatre through July 27—a musical retelling of the Disney story from Geppetto’s view that features classic and new songs by Stephen Schwartz with over 35 local youth participating. Performances are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, July 25-26 at 7 p.m. and July 26-27 at 2 p.m., with tickets at $15 for general admission and $12 for students and seniors.  The Nevada Appeal
  • Internationally renowned blues guitarist Matt Schofield will perform at the Brewery Arts Center at 7 p.m. Saturday for the Levitt AMP Concert Series in Carson City. He said his show will feature a unique mix of blues, jazz, and funk—in a performance that promises to be one-of-a-kind for both new and longtime fans.  The Nevada Appeal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Carson City schools are underway with summer projects, as district Director of Operations Virgil Berry said Carson Middle restrooms, Carson High band room and gym, plus several other facilities will get critical upgrades. Contractors and local donors are working to complete the projects by August so that school is ready for students.  The Nevada Appeal
  • Oasis Academy has named a new leadership team for the 2025-26 school year with Dane Nott as K-12 school leader, Shannon Garcia as K-6 vice principal and Andy Lenon as 7-12 vice principal—this change follows a board review after recent shifts in leadership. The team will address overcrowding with about 650 K-8 students and a nearly full high school while expanding STEM programs and staying connected with students, staff and families.  The Nevada Appeal

  • Top Gun Dragstrip is nearing the end of its 2025 points season with two races scheduled for Sept. 13 and 14 and Test N Tune events on Sept. 5 and 12 following races on June 29 and 30 — the events cover multiple classes. Current leaders in races like JR Dragster, Motorcycle ET, Sportsman ET, Pro ET and Super Pro ET continue to vie for top spots — setting the stage for the final showdown.  The Nevada Appeal
