  • Partnership Carson City said it can keep its current programs for only 14 to 15 months without extra funding. The nonprofit lost key federal grants and reduced staff and services—launching a GoFundMe page in early June to support its mental health and substance abuse programs.  The Nevada Appeal

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Family owners Les, Norma, and Edward Porter opened L and N Party Rentals off Highway 50 at Lompa Lane to provide a venue that holds up to 300 guests. A ribbon cutting was held on July 19 — and the family-run business also offers rentals of tables, chairs, and decor for various events.  CarsonNow

CRIME NEWS

  • Carson City deputies arrested several suspects over the weekend for alleged weapon and drug offenses, DUI, and domestic battery—action stemming from traffic stops where concealed firearms, gang ties, and drug paraphernalia were found—and bail ranged from $2,500 to $15,000 on various charges.  CarsonNow

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Carson City School Board will meet today at 5:30 p.m. at the Robert Crowell Board Room to discuss new policies for employee ID badges, updates to physical education for independent study, and changes to graduation requirements that align with state rules—officials will also review progress on the district strategic plan.  CarsonNow
  • Sarah Lobsinger will become principal at Carson Montessori Charter School on Aug. 1—she said she will work with teachers and families to prepare the school's two sites for the new academic year.  The Nevada Appeal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Community Development Director Hope Sullivan and the Planning Commission will host listening sessions in August at the Carson City Library to gather community concerns about the updated Master Plan Land Use Map adopted in May — sessions are set for Monday, August 11 from noon to 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 12 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., and Saturday, August 16 from 10:00 a.m. to noon with feedback presented on September 24.  CarsonNow
  • Carson City's Board of Supervisors is seeking a citizen at-large to serve on its Advisory Board to Manage Wildlife with a term ending August 2028; eligible applicants must be registered voters and residents and serve without compensation. The filing deadline is August 1 and interviews will be held at the Board meeting on August 21 (applications must be submitted online).  The Nevada Appeal
