CULTURE NEWS

  • The Mexican Standoff, a Los Angeles band, will perform in Carson City for the first time with free shows on Friday and Saturday; they will play at The Tap Shack (4 p.m. Friday) and at the Brewery Arts Center’s Levitt AMP Concert Series (7 p.m. Saturday). The band looks forward to connecting with local fans and celebrating the community.  The Nevada Appeal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Carson City School District is raising meal prices for the 2025-26 school year to cover higher operating costs—prices now range from $1.50 to $5 while some schools remain on free or reduced meal plans. The district will also add more fresh-made meals and keep its partnership with Chartwells to improve services.  The Nevada Appeal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Carson City Treasurer's Office announced that real property tax bills for the 2025-26 tax year (July 1 through June 30) are now available and that property owners should contact the office by July 31 if they do not receive a bill. The bills include a notice explaining a new property tax cap status and the option to enroll in the Recording Notification Service, and payments are due on Aug. 18, Oct. 6, Jan. 5 and March 2.  The Nevada Appeal

  • Dementia Friendly Carson City will host a free 'Living Well with Dementia' series on July 23 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Carson City Senior Center—Tahoe Room where Casey Venturini will share practical strategies to help families and caregivers support those living with dementia.  CarsonNow

  • Sophomore midfielder Kaylee Craig at Oasis Academy was named a USA Lacrosse All-American and helped lead her team to a postseason berth in the High Sierra Lacrosse League; her award (given for her skill and sportsmanship) places her among the nation's top high school players as lacrosse continues to grow in rural Northern Nevada.  The Nevada Appeal
  • Nevada receiver Marcus Bellon was named to the preseason All-Mountain West team on Wednesday as the top punt-returner entering his senior season—he is the only Wolf Pack player honored and had 39 receptions and 522 receiving yards in his 2024 debut season.  The Nevada Appeal
