COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The renovated Centennial Park tennis courts now feature durable post-tension concrete and a new ADA ramp—Carson City Parks and Recreation says all eight courts are free to use, and further park improvements are planned for the fall.  The Nevada Appeal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Alex Street brings real-world experience to his third year teaching automotive mechanics at WNC where he draws on a career that included owning an auto repair business & working with a NASCAR team. The college plans a CREST motivational event with executive coach Lamarr Womble on Aug. 5th from 9-11 a.m. and offers flexible self-paced and community education classes.  The Nevada Appeal
  • Carson Montessori and the Boys and Girls Clubs are finalizing a lease that allows the charter school to use space during daytime hours at 1870 Russell Way for at least one year—helping the school overcome past challenges in finding extra room.  The Nevada Appeal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The State Public Works Division has invited bids to upgrade heating and air conditioning at the Marjorie Russell Research Center at 2351 Arrowhead Drive with an estimated construction cost of $180,500. The pre-bid meeting will be held on July 30th at 10:00 a.m. (local time) and the virtual bid opening will take place on August 13th at 10:00 a.m.  The Nevada Appeal
  • NDOT announced that the southbound U.S. 395 off-ramp to Parr Boulevard is closed today and will remain closed until late summer due to work to excavate and repave the highway—motorists should use a detour via Clear Acre Lane.  News4

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Carson City Treasurer’s Office announced that real property tax bills for the new tax year 2025-2026, which runs from July 1 through June 30, will be mailed to property owners within the next 17 days — property owners should review the new tax cap details on their bills and call city offices if they have questions or do not receive their bill by July 31.  CarsonNow

SPORTS NEWS

  • Local athlete Grayson Grinsell, a Reno High graduate who pitched for the Oregon Ducks and recorded 101 strikeouts in 98.2 innings, was picked in the 6th round by the Detroit Tigers while Nevada’s Peyton Fosher, who led the team with 77 strikeouts, was chosen in the 19th round by the Miami Marlins.  The Nevada Appeal
