  • Carson City will host its annual July 4th Fireworks Show on Friday, July 4 at 9:30 p.m. weather permitting. Fireworks will be launched from Eagle Valley Golf Course for safety while free parking at Centennial Park and views along Arrowhead Drive give spectators options.  CarsonNow

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 68-year-old mountain biker from the Johnson Lane neighborhood died when he fell on the Clear Creek Trail off Jack Valley Road above the Clear Creek housing development on Saturday (the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident).  The Nevada Appeal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Western Nevada College on Carson City's campus will host its Reach for the Stars Gala on Aug. 2 at Joe Dini Library with a Fire — Ice theme while offering ticket and sponsorship options to support education and community enrichment. The college also announced upcoming CDL classes, fall courses beginning Aug. 25, a record spring Dean's list, and revised Tahoe Rim Trail Endurance Run routes on July 19 due to local backcountry projects.  The Nevada Appeal
  • Carson City School District and local community partners announced many school and sports programs for students starting in July. The events include a gift card drive for students in need from July 1 through August 15, free sports physicals at Carson High on July 8, and clinics in pole vault, football, soccer, tennis and a youth running camp—plus a walk and bicycle safety art contest for Nevada schoolchildren.  CarsonNow

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Trees in Northern Nevada are dripping a sticky goo as insects like aphids and scales suck sap & produce a harmful honeydew that damages nearby surfaces and attracts other pests. Experts recommend hosing the trees and using insecticidal soap or horticulture oils to manage the pests while protecting beneficial insects.  CarsonNow

  • Carson High graduate Sawyer Macy ended his prep career at the Outdoor National Championships in Eugene by breaking the 3,000-meter record with a time of 8:46.07 seconds+ and he will join Lehigh University to compete in track and cross country+ as he looks to build on his high school success.  The Nevada Appeal
  • Douglas High School named senior Cam McLelland as the Class 5A all-league Player of the Year after she led her team as the best hitter and pitcher this spring + she committed to Case Western Reserve.  The Record Courier
