  • A fundraiser for BLM firefighter Riley Frazier, who was burned on June 20 during the early attack on the Conner Fire near Pine View Estates, is 65% toward its $20,000 goal — he will miss the rest of the season as his wife Risa, a U.S. Forest Service dispatcher, cares for him.  The Record Courier

  • Several companies have expanded in Northern Nevada by buying or building new headquarters with support from NSDC and local banks. CRIME NEWS

  • A Dayton man named Michael Parker was arrested after allegedly strangling his roommate and firing an AR-15 in a Dayton neighborhood on June 26, and deputies said he dropped his weapon after shots were fired + his injured roommate was taken to Carson-Tahoe Hospital.  News4
  • Carson City Sheriff’s Office arrested Ernst Waldermar Johnson V and Alayns Hotchkiss on June 26 in downtown in connection with the April 30 murder of Gilbert Lopez III, who was shot near the Blu Bull bar on Telegraph Street—Johnson faces charges of conspiracy and unlawful firearm and drug possession while Hotchkiss is charged as an accessory to a felony crime and for destroying evidence.  News4

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Fire crews reported that the Conner Fire was 96% contained as of Friday when it reached 17,714 acres, and they will continue mop-up, repair, and patrol operations until all remaining heat is extinguished. The public is asked to avoid the area while crews work to restore and secure the affected land.  News4

HEALTH NEWS

  • A Douglas County woman in her 50s was hospitalized this summer with a confirmed hantavirus infection, Carson City Health and Human Services reported Friday—suspected exposure occurred during home renovations when rodent droppings—urine or nesting material—were disturbed, and the investigation is ongoing.  The Record Courier

  • Minden native Sullivan Cauley upset heavily favored Phil Davis by unanimous decision on Friday night in the PFL light heavyweight semifinal match. Cauley — who went the full 15 minutes in his pro career for the first time — will face Antonio Carlos Jr. in the tournament final set for October.  The Record Courier
