  • Genoa entrepreneur Brandy Thomson is now Family Support Council’s Community Outreach Director—she will boost grant-seeking and build local partnerships to support services for domestic and sexual violence survivors as well as individuals with disabilities.  The Record Courier
  • About 60 residents attended a panel discussion on May 31st at Nashville Social Club to review plans for the Downtown Town Square project with panelists Tom Metcalf, Doreen Mack and Kathleen Beasley. ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Saturday afternoon, a 27-foot Chris-Craft vessel capsized near D.L. Bliss State Park at Lake Tahoe, leaving six people dead—two taken to a local hospital and two still missing as search efforts continued.  The Nevada Appeal

  • Carson City food trucks are busy this summer as operators like Candace Sanders and Jason Neal serve creative meals and coordinate their schedules via group texts. The vendors must get business licenses and pass health inspections, and they plan to serve at events such as a BAC concert on June 28 — drawing local fans to a variety of mobile eateries.  The Nevada Appeal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • JoAnne Skelly (UNR Cooperative Extension) warned that soil sterilant herbicides should not be used near trees because water can carry the chemicals to harm nearby plants. She detailed a case where misapplied herbicides led to several tree deaths (including apricot, plum, and oak trees) and urged homeowners to read labels carefully before use.  The Nevada Appeal
  • Firefighters fought the Conner Fire in the Pine Nut Mountains yesterday and saw only small flare-ups. They are building lines to stop the fire and expect full containment by July 4.  The Record Courier
