COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Advocates to End Domestic Violence will host the 30th Taste of Downtown in Carson City on Saturday, June 21. The event will run from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.—with live music until 10 p.m.—and will support services for survivors.  CarsonNow

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Joyce Ponte from Carson City was named the winner of the Expo’s Big Backyard BBQ Giveaway at the Carson Tahoe Home & Business Expo held at Carson Mall Shopping Center—she earned a $2,300 prize package that included a NEXGRILL BBQ from Home Depot, premium beef, cutlery, and BBQ tools. The event brought together local home improvement vendors, and planning for next year’s expo is underway.  CarsonNow

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Carson City School Board met on June 10 to talk about changes to school wellness policies—including new rules for culinary fundraising, beverage options, and event notifications—with Superintendent Feuling praising a successful school year. They also reviewed plans to expand suicide prevention screenings for 7th and 9th graders—including more staff training—and discussed possible updates to discipline and recess policies.  CarsonNow
  • Western Nevada College recognized 446 students on its spring Semester Dean's List for earning a 3.50 GPA and completing at least 12 units. WNC President Dr. J. Kyle Dalpe praised the achievement (one of the largest lists in college history) and congratulated the students.  CarsonNow

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On June 11, the Carson City Regional Transportation Commission chose six road projects for district 3 to be funded in the fiscal year starting July 1 — three regional roads on Fairview Drive, Butti Way with Airport Road, and South Edmonds Drive along with three local street projects on Hells Bells and Marsh Road and in the Race Track Road area. Design will start this fall and construction is planned for 2026 and 2027, with about $4.6 million available each year to guide careful project choices.  The Nevada Appeal
  • Carson City supervisors will meet Thursday, June 20 at 8:30 a.m. in the Community Center to discuss filling four Library Board vacancies while also considering a $5.8 million body camera contract plus ordinances for a Downtown Neighborhood Improvement District and a Planned Unit Development for 240 townhomes off Morgan Mill Road.  CarsonNow
  • Gov. Lombardo and state foresters warned Nevada is abnormally dry and face a risky fire season due to low snow and a warm spring—recent fires in the Reno-Sparks area have added to the caution. New state bills and interagency plans may boost wildfire prevention and emergency responses as officials work to keep communities safe.  CarsonNow

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Sierra Nevada Realtors’ May report showed that Carson City’s median price for single-family homes jumped 12.9% to $585,000 from April, while Lyon and Douglas counties also saw modest price increases. The report noted 44 sales in Carson City and changes in active inventory—indicating a mixed but positive trend in the regional home market.  CarsonNow
