  • Carson City's new trailhead at the east end of Koontz Lane provides a crossing on South Edmonds Drive, a vault toilet, shade structure, ADA parking and an equestrian pullout that opens a 2.5-mile trail along the base of Prison Hill— the city will host a grand opening with a ribbon cutting and guided hike on June 14 from 9 a.m. to noon.  The Nevada Appeal

CRIME NEWS

  • Carson City School District warns that a scam website and app named NIL Club is targeting high school athletes by falsely offering money-making opportunities while secretly adding recurring subscription fees, and families are advised not to share personal or financial information.  News4

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Carson City School District warned students and parents about a scam called “NIL Club” that sends texts and uses an app to lure high school athletes with false promises of payment—experts remind that school athletes cannot legally earn money from athletics per NIAA and NFHS rules.  The Nevada Appeal
  • On June 10 at 10 a.m., the Northern Nevada Correctional Center hosted a graduation ceremony for incarcerated students who completed Western Nevada College’s Higher Education in Prison program—marking the first time the college used federal approval to offer Pell Grants to eligible students. Officials noted that the program helps reduce recidivism and opens doors for meaningful employment after release.  News4
  • Western Nevada College opened The Link, a career and community resource center, on May 8 at the Aspen Building on its Carson City campus. The center offers students tools for career discovery, resume and interview help and organizes job fairs—helping them prepare for future opportunities.  The Nevada Appeal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, the Carson City Regional Transportation Commission will meet in the board room at 851 E. William St to select road projects for performance district 3 after the Carson Area Metropolitan Planning Organization meets at 4:30 p.m.—staff recommends six projects with an estimated funding total of about $4.6 million in FY 2026, with design beginning this fall and construction planned for 2026 and 2027.  The Nevada Appeal
