COMMUNITY NEWS

  • University of Nevada Extension has planned Pollinator Week events from June 16 to 22 that will include a Bug and Flower Hunt using the iNaturalist app, movie nights, a $100 garden kit sale, and a self-guided pollinator garden tour with stops in Reno, Carson City and Gardnerville - some events require pre-registration. Attendees can pick up kits at local Extension offices while enjoying free entry to the movie shows and tour.  The Nevada Appeal

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The third annual Carson Tahoe Home & Business Expo will be held at Carson Mall Shopping Center from June 14 to 15 and will bring together local businesses, entrepreneurs, homeowners and industry professionals. Father’s Day festivities—such as a cornhole contest, a 15-foot putting green, complimentary cookies and coffee for dads and raffle drawings at 5 p.m.—will add a special touch to the event.  The Nevada Appeal
  • NV Energy issued an apology to residents in Douglas County for multiple outages since May 12—one Sunday event affected 11,595 customers in Carson Valley when birds struck equipment at the Buckeye substation. The company is taking steps to prevent future outages by addressing issues like loose wires and transmission line trips.  The Record Courier

CULTURE NEWS

  • Friends of the Nevada State Museum is asking local volunteers to help share Nevada’s history by leading tours at exhibits about the Carson City U.S. Mint and Nevada State Capitol Building. Volunteers will get expert training and mentoring to guide educational programs on Nevada’s natural wonders and indigenous culture — details are available upon request.  The Nevada Appeal

  • Carson High School graduated 490 seniors on Saturday as graduate Jocelyn Pedersen urged classmates to use high school as a foundation for future success—while Principal Dan Carstens celebrated the students' resilience and marked the ceremony as a memorable send-off.  The Nevada Appeal
  • On Friday at the Carson City Community Theater, Pioneer Academy celebrated 32 graduates, including Oceanus Hammock who earned an advanced diploma and a Millennium scholarship after moving from Washington. Student speakers shared their growth and plans for the future—while Superintendent Feuling praised the dedicated staff for inspiring each student.  The Nevada Appeal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Carson City officials announced road closures and lane restrictions from June 9 to 15 due to road and utility work, with 2nd Street closed to westbound traffic through June 30 and Multi-Use Paths closed for pavement patching until early next week (detours will be provided for cyclists). Telegraph Street will also be closed this Saturday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. for a cornhole tournament.  The Nevada Appeal

  • Carson High senior Anne Davis was named one of the NIAA Top Ten student-athletes of the year after winning the girls’ 100-meter hurdles at the Class 5A North regional meet, setting a personal record of 15.78 seconds—an honor that highlights her skill, academics, and community involvement.  The Nevada Appeal
