COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Carson City EAA Chapter 403 will host a free Young Eagles flight event for kids ages 8-17 on June 14 at Carson City Airport. Registration opens online Saturday, June 7 at 8 a.m. with limited slots while a pancake breakfast is served at the EAA Chapter House from 8 to 10 a.m. for 10 dollars for adults and 8 dollars for children.  CarsonNow

CRIME NEWS

  • Carson City police arrested several individuals in various incidents this week, including a 57-year-old man charged with felony hit and run with injury and DUI first after fleeing a crash near I-580 and Fairview at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, a man charged with DUI first and harassment after a domestic dispute near Lahontan Drive just before 10 p.m., a 51-year-old woman arrested for controlled substance possession on E. Long Street just after midnight, and a 32-year-old man arrested for DUI first and possession of cocaine early Friday morning — others were detained on fraud and contempt of court warrants.  CarsonNow

CULTURE NEWS

  • At 5:30 p.m. Monday the Carson City Cultural Commission will review finalists for the Out of the Box traffic signal box art project at the community center — six boxes are in the contest with selected artists paid $1,000 each. Commissioners will also hear a presentation on the Nevada Neon Project and may recommend $25,000 in redevelopment funds for nonprofit arts events.  The Nevada Appeal
  • The Nevada Artist Association will host its annual Spirit of America art contest with entries due Saturday, June 21 from 9AM to 12PM at its art gallery on W. King Street in Carson City. Judging is set for June 22 and winners will be announced on social media plus the show will run until August 8.  CarsonNow

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Camp Invention (a nationally recognized program) will return to Jacks Valley Elementary School next week starting June 16 to offer hands-on STEM activities for children entering grades K-6 at a cost of $300 (701 Jacks Valley Rd). Local educators will lead the program to build creativity and problem solving skills.  The Record Courier
  • Carson Valley Middle School hosted its 2025 Career Fair on May 23, where nearly 30 community representatives met with students to explore career options and discuss fields such as emergency services, technology, and trades. Students spent over an hour and a half at interactive booths—gaining insights and advice for their future careers.  The Record Courier

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mark Jensen—director of Dangberg Home Ranch—announced he will leave in the middle of this month to become executive director at the Glenwood Springs Historical Society in Colorado, marking an end to his long service preserving the Ranch's legacy.  The Record Courier
  • On Monday, lawmakers in Carson City ended the legislative session in confusion as over 150 bills died when differences between the two chambers were not resolved—key proposals on health care, crime, economic development and other issues failed to advance. The stalled bills leave the state with several unfinished initiatives and an uncertain policy outlook going forward.  CarsonNow
