Two top graduates from Pioneer Academy said the small school setting built their confidence and they will walk the stage this Friday.

The school will merge with Carson High to become Carson Silver next year—Mallorie Sheley-Brendel plans to attend the University of Nevada, Reno while Kylee Krause-Mays will study psychology at Western Nevada College.

Carson City Culture and Tourism Authority will hold a meeting at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, June 9 at the Carson City Community Center in the Robert Bob Crowell Board Room to act on a resolution that adds $729,756 to the fiscal year 2024 to 2025 general fund budget so that unbudgeted resources may be appropriated—persons may attend and file written comments before the meeting.

The Nevada National Guard will host its Flag Day observance and Army 250th birthday celebration on June 14 at the Veterans Memorial behind the state capitol — featuring an Army helicopter flyover, historical flag presentation and remarks by Brig.

Carson City Culture & Tourism Authority will review a resolution to add $112,501 to the Capital Projects Fund for fiscal year 2024-2025 at a meeting on Monday, June 9 at 4:00 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center (Robert “Bob” Crowell Board Room), where residents may submit written comments before the meeting.

Governor Joe Lombardo's housing bill was approved by lawmakers on Monday with a 15-6 Senate vote, directing $133 million to affordable housing and expanding its definition.

His other key bills, including the Health Access Act and the Safe Streets and Neighborhoods Act, did not pass and may be revisited in a special session.

Rattlesnake Raceway will host Octane Fest this weekend with races in IMCA Stock Car, Street Stock, Bootlegger, IMCA Modified, Mini Stock, IMCA Northern SportMod and Dwarf classes.

Friday’s events will start with pits opening at 2 p.m. and races at 7 p.m., while Saturday’s races will begin at 6 p.m.—tickets include general admission and pit pass options.

Carson High School hosted its first Athletics Awards Night in late May, where 11 seniors signed letters of intent to play college sports plus awards were given to student athletes, coaches, and staff for their performance this season.
