  • The Ron Wood Family Resource Center announced that Executive Director Joyce Buckingham will retire within the next few months after nearly two decades of service (she joined in 2006 and has worked over 30 years in social services). The Board is now searching for her successor to continue expanding programs for children, families, and individuals in Carson City and nearby rural areas.  CarsonNow
  • Local businessman Ted Rupert donated a 2004 Infiniti FX35 to Carson High student Alaze Solis Ramirez during a school event—he said his gift aimed to ease her family's burden of sharing one vehicle. Vice Principal Joseph Billings said the donation recognized Alaze's hard work and is set to improve her daily commute.  News4

CRIME NEWS

  • Carson City police arrested 47-year-old Justin Jackson Monday morning on felony domestic battery with strangulation charges after a domestic dispute left a victim with red marks on both sides of the neck—Jackson said any marks came from clothing hangers—and he is held on a $7,500 bail.  CarsonNow

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On May 27, 2025, the Carson City School Board met in the Bob Crowell Board Room to review the 2025-26 budget that shows a $4.56 million deficit along with updates to fund balances, staffing, and health curriculum resources. The trustees also discussed capital improvement plans for local schools—plans that will be adjusted in December after further review of fiscal data.  CarsonNow
  • Graduating Oasis Academy College Prep students earned diplomas and joined an evening ceremony at the Oats Park Arts Center Barkley Theatre on May 21 after receiving awards from Western Nevada College earlier that day. Judge Tom Stockard advised students to read for wisdom—while retiring principal Rochelle Tisdale praised their perseverance and urged them to let the world be theirs.  The Nevada Appeal

  • JoAnne Skelly, an Extension Educator Emerita, advised homeowners to remove high fire-risk vegetation—like junipers and dead branches—from around their homes this spring to lower wildfire dangers, and stressed proper spacing and low-growing plants to protect property.  The Nevada Appeal

  • Carson High graduate Kedre Luschar—a University of Oregon softball player—was named to the Division I all-American second team on Tuesday. Oregon will play in the Women’s College World Series for the first time since 2018.  The Nevada Appeal
