COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Carson City Rotary will host the Capital City Brewfest this Saturday, May 31 at McFadden Plaza with over 20 brewers, four food trucks, vendors and live music. The event will run from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.—ticket prices range from $35 for early Rotarian tickets to $45 on the day while proceeds support scholarships and youth programs.  CarsonNow
  • The University of Nevada, Reno’s Master Gardeners will host a pollinator plant sale at the Carson City Community Garden on Saturday, May 31 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.—local native plants will be available to improve outdoor areas and raise funds for the gardeners’ community projects.  CarsonNow

CRIME NEWS

  • Carson City deputies arrested 15 people over Memorial Day weekend for offenses including DUI, hit and run with injury, domestic battery, and warrant violations—bail ranged from $1,000 to $61,737 with arrests made between May 24 and May 26.  CarsonNow

CULTURE NEWS

  • Beginning in June, Dangberg Historic Park will host the 2025 Summer Festival with historical characters, lively bands and speakers like Mark McLaughlin and Dr. Michael Fischer (ticketed and free events are planned). The festival will include four concerts with acts such as Old West Trio and other performers, and guests must bring their own seating (no pets allowed except certified service animals).  The Record Courier
  • Carson City Symphony will hold its annual pops party concert at 6 p.m. Sunday, June 8 on the Governor’s Mansion back lawn — the grounds open at 5 p.m. with guest singer Monique De Haviland and Sierra Alphorn Players providing pre-concert entertainment and free admission.  The Nevada Appeal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Assembly Bill 597—sponsored by Assembly Speaker Steve Yeager—would let more than 743,000 nonpartisan voters request partisan mail ballots or vote in person in primary elections, a change from the current rules that limit voting to registered party members. The measure will be discussed on May 29 at 1:30 p.m. in the Assembly Legislative Operations and Elections committee and must pass both houses by June 2.  News4
  • Governor Lombardo is set to sign Assembly Bill 244 that will ban styrofoam takeout containers at food establishments with 10 or more locations starting October 1. Small businesses remain exempt unless they operate in states with similar bans—by January 1, the law will extend to all food establishments with violators facing fines of up to $100 per day.  News4
  • State Sen. Robin Titus introduced emergency bill SB 505 on Monday night to form an 11-member Nevada Energy Resiliency Task Force—charged with reducing the state's heavy reliance on California for 88% of its 5 million daily gallons of gasoline and diesel. GOP Assembly Leader Gregory Hafen co-sponsored the bill, and the panel will deliver a report with actionable energy solutions by the 2027 legislative session.  News4

  • The Food Bank of Northern Nevada warned that proposed SNAP cuts will worsen child hunger as Feeding America’s Map the Meal Gap study shows one in five Nevada children faces food insecurity and rural areas like Eureka report rates up to 30%—the bank said vulnerable families will lose crucial support.  News4
