CRIME NEWS

  • Carson City deputies arrested Ernesto Perez—35—for using another’s ID, shoplifting dry shampoo, bandaids and hair gel, and possessing a controlled substance chunk found in his wallet during a call on Market Street, while later a 39-year-old man was taken in for methamphetamine possession after a vehicle stop near College Parkway and Goni, and warrant arrests were made involving a 54-year-old from Reno and a 31-year-old Dayton woman.  CarsonNow

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Carson City Symphony will hold its annual Pops Party concert on June 8 at 6:00 p.m. on the Governor’s Mansion back lawn—guest singer Monique De Haviland, the Carson Chamber Singers, and Sierra Alphorn Players will perform while free seating and street parking are available and the show will move indoors if rain occurs.  CarsonNow

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On May 7, the Navy League’s Carson City Council awarded $500 scholarships to Carson High senior Noah Ciminski and Churchill County High senior Keileene Kato. Ciminski will attend basic training this summer—while Kato plans to study nursing at Western Nevada College.  The Nevada Appeal
  • Gov. Joe Lombardo introduced an education bill that would let the state convert low-performing schools into charters and take control of struggling districts that do not meet achievement targets. The proposal also expands school choice by using public funds to help pay private tuition for students leaving underperforming schools—measures that could be extended for up to six years if performance does not improve.  CarsonNow

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lawmakers are reviewing five state budget bills amid lower state revenues, including a capital improvement program that needs a two-thirds vote and allocates $14.6 million to renovate the Hobart Dam near Carson City—one of several measures that maintain current funding levels rather than record-breaking increases. Legislative committees are also studying over $900 million in spending requests while bills for K-12 education and state worker pay make modest adjustments compared to past increases.  CarsonNow
  • The Carson City Board of Supervisors and Redevelopment Authority will meet at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 27 in the Bob Crowell Board Room at the Carson City Community Center to finalize the FY 26 budget. Officials will review supplemental requests, contract adjustments, and revenue changes—reflecting updated plans after a mid-year revenue cut.  CarsonNow

HEALTH NEWS

  • Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting a Hantavirus case in Douglas County after a man under 50 was hospitalized from exposure to rodent droppings during home renovations. It is the first case since June 2021—and the investigation is ongoing.  CarsonNow

  • Carson High alumni Kailee — Kedre Luschar helped Oregon softball rally from a deficit to secure a super regional berth after a walk-off win against Stanford last Sunday.
