CRIME NEWS

  • On April 16th, a wallet was stolen from Bodine’s Casino on S Carson St and the sheriff’s office has pictures of two suspects—one in a grey shirt, blue jeans, converse shoes, and a red and black baseball hat and another in a flannel jacket, camo shorts, and black shoes—while urging anyone with information to come forward.  CarsonNow

EDUCATION NEWS

  • House Speaker Steve Yeager presented an amendment to AB 398 on Thursday that adds charter school teacher pay raises after Governor Joe Lombardo threatened to veto the education budget if the raises were not included. The amendment will require charter schools to get interim finance committee approval before receiving funds — it must pass committee review by May 28.  FOX Reno

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Lombardo introduced the Nevada Healthcare Access Act yesterday at UNLV med school to help fix provider shortages in rural and underserved areas. The new law creates a Workforce Access Fund and speeds up licensing, payment, and telepsychology services—improving care access for state residents.  News4
  • State regulators filed a petition on Tuesday to investigate NV Energy after finding that more than 80,000 customers were overcharged by over $17 million from misclassification errors, and refunds were capped at six months in some cases—raising questions about the utility's practices. The inquiry may force NV Energy to offer full refunds if it is found to have broken the law.  News4
  • Carson City supervisors unanimously offered the city manager job to Glen Martel after extensive interviews, and he will begin his role pending a background check while his application noted a minimum salary requirement of $220K (as stated in his application). Supervisors also directed staff to support a judicial bill that will add a district court judge today during a $15.3 million courthouse remodel with annual financial impacts of over $350K (according to fiscal notes).  The Nevada Appeal
  • The Carson City Community Emergency Response Team and the Carson City Fire Department will hold a formal U.S. flag retirement ceremony on Flag Day, Saturday, June 14 at 12:00 p.m. at Station 52. Guests can park at the Carson City Airport—using a JAC shuttle to reach the site as the event follows the U.S. Flag Code.  CarsonNow
