COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Volunteers helped unload plants on Wednesday at River Fork Ranch Preserve in Genoa to ready the second annual Adaptive Native and Native Plant Sale, which will run Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 381 Genoa Lane; all plants cost $15 and proceeds will support local Master Gardener — Cooperative Extension education programs.  The Record Courier

CULTURE NEWS

  • Joshua Bonde, a citizen of the Te-Moak Tribe of Western Shoshone, has taken charge as director of the Stewart Indian School Cultural Center and Museum at 1 Jacobsen Way in Carson City—he grew up in Fallon, graduated from Churchill County High, and worked for over 15 years in local nonprofits and museums.  The Nevada Appeal
  • Fallon Theatre will host a free live concert with local band River Rogue at 7 p.m. Saturday — the cover band composed of musicians from Schurz, Fallon and Carson City will perform country, rock and blues hits.  The Nevada Appeal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Oasis Academy Girls Lacrosse team qualified for playoffs after a 10 to 6 win over McQueen High School on April 23, and Coach Karla Craig praised the team for its grit despite a small roster. Senior Leah Bake will earn her high school diploma and Associate of Arts degree this month before starting film and media production at UNR while senior Camille Frossard, who began her high school journey after homeschooling, will study geological engineering at UNR (both crediting key mentors like Mr. Andy Lenon).  The Nevada Appeal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Carson City Health and Human Services encourages women to schedule an annual checkup to catch health issues early—experts stress checking on heart disease, osteoporosis, and cancer screenings while advising women to bring their questions to their doctor.  The Nevada Appeal

  • Carson City will host a public lien sale on May 28th at 4 p.m. at A-American Self Storage where bidders can access personal property such as business equipment, electronics, furniture and other items — all sales are subject to prior cancellation.  The Nevada Appeal
  • An estate sale at 4591 Bigelow Dr in Carson City will offer wood shop machines, equipment, tools, lumber, camping gear, linens, bikes, oxygen machines, gardening tools, and more. The sale will run from May 16 to 17 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on May 18.  The Record Courier
