CRIME NEWS

  • A two-day preliminary hearing was held Aug. 14-15, 2023 in East Fork Justice Court for the shooting death of Carson City man Adam Paul Mulkey, with suspect Larry Allen Arnold, 48, and suspect Melissa Nicole Malmstedt, 42, both held without bail, facing evidence from phone tracking and surveillance—Malmstedt is accused of luring Mulkey after an affair.  The Record Courier

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Assemblymember Joe Dalia is pushing for AB346—a bill that would allow physician-assisted suicide for patients in painful end-of-life situations. The bill passed the Assembly floor with bipartisan support and now heads to the state Senate while Governor Joe Lombardo has said he will veto it.  The Nevada Appeal
  • Carson City will see several road closures and lane restrictions from May 5-11 due to road and utility work; 2nd Street westbound between Carson and Curry is closed until June 30, Center Drive is closed May 5-16, and Gentry Lane is closed Monday-Thursday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Multi-Use Paths near Carson and the Governors Field Complex, along with parts of Roop and Stewart Streets, will have work and lane reductions with detours for cyclists.  The Nevada Appeal
  • Carson City Planning Commission voted to recommend a 240 townhome project on 22 acres north and west of Morgan Mill Road with 32 conditions including a vegetation management plan to reduce fire risks—while local officials and residents raised traffic and safety concerns. The commission also approved a digital billboard update and two abandonment requests, and the project now goes to the Board of Supervisors for approval.  The Nevada Appeal

  • Douglas High School softball seniors have led the Tigers with three straight state championship appearances and a comeback win over McQueen — senior Cam McLelland held a key team meeting that sparked a five-run inning. The team will prepare for the regional tournament next week while seniors Hill and McLelland post strong batting and pitching numbers.  The Nevada Appeal
  • The Tahoe Knight Monsters start the Mountain Division Finals today in Kansas City in a series of seven games against the top-seeded Kansas City Mavericks. The team, after sweeping Wichita in the opening round, is confident in its game plan to score early and gain momentum.  The Record Courier
