- ➤ De Lecs Smith (26) was charged with open murder after he shot a man multiple times outside a Carson City bar on Telegraph Street on April 30 at 9:45 p.m. following an exchange of words, turned himself in before 10:30 p.m., and is held without bail pending a court hearing on May 5. News4
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City officials announced that the Carson City Multi-Use Pathway Project will begin construction on May 5—improving several pathways and providing detours for pedestrians and cyclists. The $1.3 million project, funded by a federal Transportation Alternative Program grant, includes work on routes such as the Greenbelt Spur, Roop Street and Governor’s Field sidewalk, and sections of Route 6 through mid-August. - ➤ On May 1st, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office attended the Peace Officer Memorial ceremony in Carson City to honor officers killed in the line of duty — the memorial, established in 1998 and privately funded, had no new names added as no line-of-duty deaths occurred in 2024. CarsonNow
- ➤ Today the Carson City Planning Commission approved a tentative development map for 240 townhomes on about 22 acres off Highway 50 east near Morgan Mill—this project exceeds the 30% open space rule by using over 5 acres from a former landfill and will now advance to the Board of Supervisors for final approval. - ➤ Carson City supervisors approved a new master plan to guide future land use along with a tentative fiscal year 2026 budget after nearly 12 hours of public input on Thursday. The master plan (adopted 4-1 with Supervisor Maurice White dissenting) will require future zoning code updates and a public meeting will be held within 90 days, while the budget supports public safety, infrastructure, and redevelopment projects.
