  • A man died from a gunshot on Wednesday night at about 9:45 p.m. outside the Blue Bull bar on Telegraph Street in Carson City when an altercation set off several 911 calls and a suspect (whose name was not released) turned himself in (he is an adult male) at the sheriff’s office.  CarsonNow

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Carson High School announced Wednesday that Taylor Macedo will be the new head varsity cheer coach and English teacher, replacing Mikayla Nelms when she joins the Senators in August—she brings six years of competitive cheerleading experience.  The Nevada Appeal
  • Carson City EAA Chapter 403 will host a free Young Eagles youth flight event at Carson City Airport on May 10 for kids ages 8-17 where they will receive a pre-flight safety briefing, fly in private aircraft, and earn a logbook, membership, and online Ground School access—registration starts Saturday, May 3 at 8 a.m. A pancake breakfast will also be available at the Chapter House from 8 to 10 a.m. for $10 for adults and $8 for children.  CarsonNow

  • State lawmakers are discussing Nevada's potential budget shortfall on the Ballot Battleground: Nevada podcast as lagging revenues make passing a balanced budget a key challenge during the 83rd legislative session.  FOX Reno

HEALTH NEWS

  • Carson City Health and Human Services explains that post-traumatic stress disorder can develop in anyone who faces a frightening or dangerous event (symptoms include flashbacks, avoidance, and anxiety). The agency urges residents with lasting symptoms to seek help from mental health professionals and provides local support information at its office on E. Long St.  The Nevada Appeal

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Night of Fights fundraiser is a boxing event with nearly 30 bouts that will be held Friday at Rafter 3C Arena, where doors open at 5:30 p.m., preliminaries start at 6 p.m. and the main card begins at 7 p.m.; almost 80 high school students tried out this month to help fund the Greenwave wrestling program's travel and equipment costs.  The Nevada Appeal
