CULTURE NEWS

  • Mile High Band Association’s 2025 Jazz and Beyond Festival Committee is sponsoring an art contest for northern Nevada artists including teachers and students where selected entries may be used on the festival’s advertising poster and T-shirts; the contest winner will receive a certificate and $200 while entries are due May 1.  CarsonNow
  • Cinco de Mayo Celebración 2025 will be held this Sunday, May 4 at the BAC campus in Carson City from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.—the event will feature a taco competition, live painting by Edwin 'Esco' Martinez, live music by Paso Fino, a free screening of Encanto and arts and crafts booths for all ages.  CarsonNow

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Casinos in the Carson City area recorded a 2.61% rise in gaming win in March (totaling $11,569,458) while state figures showed a 1.11% decline compared to March last year. Other casinos saw declines of 7.16% at South Shore Lake Tahoe and 4.93% at North Lake Tahoe with Washoe County reporting a 6.96% gain.  CarsonNow

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Carson High senior JT Heaton earned an NIAA Scholarship Athlete Award, Academic All-State honors, and athletic accolades including Defensive Player of the Year and a wrestling championship & he has earned respect for his achievements. He works with CLS students and hopes to attend a military academy after earning three congressional nominations.  The Nevada Appeal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Lombardo signed a Data Sharing Agreement with the Bureau of Land Management, Nevada today that will improve the sharing of information on federal lands available for disposal and support future housing and economic development—BLM Nevada's acting director Kim Prill said the agreement will enhance data accuracy and efficiency.  News4

  • Eagle Valley Estates filed a Notice of Sale for a 1979 manufactured home to settle a lien for unpaid rent charges, and the auction will be held on May 23 at 9:00 a.m. at 170 Koontz Lane in Carson City; interested bidders must pay by cash or cashier’s check and may settle the lien amount of $6,261.88 (including a $2,500.00 priority lien) before the sale.  The Nevada Appeal
