COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Minden Fortnightly donated $29,400 on April 15 to support 34 local programs at CVIC Hall, including scholarships and hall renovations that benefit the Carson Valley community.  The Record Courier
  • The Salvation Army’s Side Quest youth group built and painted a free library box at 911 E. Second St. to provide a space for local teens to exchange books (the design was chosen through a contest) and strengthen community ties.  The Nevada Appeal
  • Chapter 7 of the Disabled American Veterans invites Carson City locals to help place flags on veteran headstones at Lone Mountain Cemetery at 4 p.m. on May 22 — the flags will be removed on May 25.  The Nevada Appeal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A lien sale for personal property units is scheduled to begin online on May 5 at 8:00 a.m. and will end on May 12 at 5:00 p.m. from StorWise (6300 US 50), as announced by Michelle Hensen.  The Nevada Appeal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Suicide Prevention Network and Mental Health America will plant a pinwheel at the Carson Valley Museum and Cultural Center on May 4 from 4:30 — 6 p.m. to mark Mental Health Awareness Month and offer symbols of hope and support.  The Record Courier
  • Two Gypsy Vanner draft horses visited the Northern Nevada State Veterans Home on Friday, bringing comfort and connection as residents in wheelchairs enjoyed petting the animals — a program by the Nevada Department of Veterans Services that helps ease stress, anxiety, and depression.  FOX Reno

SPORTS NEWS

  • Oasis Academy’s baseball and softball teams clinched playoff berths after sweeping West Wendover in league doubleheaders earlier this week; the baseball squad locked a No. 3 seed while the softball team secured a playoff ticket with a chance to finish No. 2 ahead of next weekend's tournament in Lovelock.  The Nevada Appeal
  • The Greenwave wrestling program’s annual Night of Fights will take place at Rafter 3C Arena on Friday with doors opening at 5 p.m. and bouts beginning at 6 p.m.—all proceeds support the CCHS wrestling team for singlets, apparel, and training equipment.  The Nevada Appeal
